Dedication
This year?s newsletter is being dedicated to Harriet Olson. Harriet was one of the original organizers that formed the North Sidney Church and Cemetery Historical Association. Until this year, due to medical problems, Harriet has always written this newsletter. Harriet grew up in the Sidney/Stanton area and knows almost everyone in the area. At Memorial Services, I was always amazed when she went to the front of the Church and could point to everyone at the service and tell who they were and who they are related to. Harriet is always willing to talk to anyone who has time to hear about the past. Her knowledge of people and history of the Sidney and Stanton area is amazing. Harriet just recently returned home from her stay in extended care. I?m sure she will be at the Memorial Day Service, her son and daughter-in-law Albern & Linda will make sure of that.

Movie Update!
As we indicated in last years newsletter the movie ?Resurrection? that was filmed at the Church was supposed to be done in the fall. The producer, Tara Kittle, has had some serious health problems and the completion of the movie has been set back. Luckily she has some very competent associates that have been continuing the work. Hopefully by the time you receive this, there will be a new site with short clips of the movie to view.

Heritage Wall
Our ?Heritage Wall? has taken on a new look. After taking the pictures down twice for the filming of the movie, we decided we need to protect them better. Jennifer Thomsen and I have worked this winter on putting all of the pictures in frames. It was a long job but we think they will be preserved better. If you see pictures without names and know who they are let Jennifer Thomsen know so we can add the names.

February Ice Storm
The ice storm in February caused quite a bit of tree damage at the cemetery. Pictures were taken during the clean-up and are on display at the Church. Thanks to everyone who pitched in and helped with the difficult clean-up.

Cemetery Lots
There are just a few grave lots that are still available. If you are interested in purchasing a lot, check with the officers or our Sexton, Wesley Thomsen.

Memorial Day Service & Volunteers
Please plan on attending the Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 29th. Final plans will be made at the Annual Meeting on May 10th. The meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Church. The Memorial Day Service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Scott Lindner from St. Paul?s Church in Greenville will lead the service.
The week prior to Memorial Day we are looking for volunteers to spend a few hours to keep the church open and greet visitors. Please let Jennifer Thomsen know if you are willing to do this, so we can make sure the church will be unlocked.

North Sidney Book / Seafred Jensen Family
We still have copies of the North Sidney 1884-1984 book. There is much information on the Sidney area and families in the area. Contact Jennifer Thomsen or pick one up at the Church on Memorial Day. On that note, I am trying to cover some of the families that are noted in the book. This year I will focus on the Seafred Jensen family.
Seafred was born August 24, 1908 to Lars and Marie Jensen in Sidney Township. Lars Jensen was a farmer and lived most of his life on the farm North of Sidney. Seafred Jensen married Ruth Noah on June 21, 1929. Ruth Noah was born July 19, 1907. Ruth is the daughter of William U. and Estelle (Mindad) Noah. Seafred and Ruth had two children, Terry Wayne born April 27, 1936 and Esther Estella born August 15, 1945. Terry and Esther attended school in Sidney and graduated from Stanton High School. Terry married Irene Bolek and have a daughter, Valerie, and two adopted sons, Eric and John. Esther married Gerald Petersen and they have a daughter, Corinda Sue, and son, Gary. Esther and Gerald live in the Noah homestead. Seafred retired from Gibson?s and Ruth retired from the Bank of Sidney. Seafred died August 10, 1991 . Ruth married Harry John Campbell on March 21, 1993 and they lived just down the street from where Seafred and Ruth lived. John died August 9, 2004. Ruth will celebrate her 99th birthday this year. If you want more information on the Jensen family or others ? purchase the book for only $35.00. It also makes a great gift to pass on to children and grandchildren, etc.

Memorium
In the last year we have had several friends and family members leave us, Rex Nelson and Eileen Elliott (cousins of Hugh Thomsen and Harriet Olson), Chester Jensen, Kenneth Petersen, Darl Main, Kendall Svendsen, Jeffery Svendsen (son of Kendall & Maxine Svendsen), Jim Malik, Lucille Mooney, and Imogene Thomsen. I?m sure we have missed some special people in your lives. All will be greatly missed.

Cemetery Grounds
The cemetery is being taken care of by a professional lawn service. John Kooi has done an excellent job the last few years for us. If you have any concerns about your lot care contact Wes Thomsen and he will contact John.

Friends & Family in the Armed Services
Please remember and pray for all of our men and women serving in the military. May they all return soon. Flags are placed on the grave of Veterans each year. Sidney Township furnishes the flags and John and Lillian Christophersen make this their project.

Salutation
This brings to a close my first newsletter. I know it will never be as good as Harriet?s were, but I?ll continue to try. God Bless you Aunt Harriet for all the work you have willingly done for the Historical Association!
